Note
Teton sunrise, without the usual mistake
July 14, 2026

We’ve been to Grand Teton more times than we can count, and this is one of the biggest things we tell our friends before they go.
Our sunrise picks:
- Mormon Row: the classic barn shot and the biggest sunrise crowd we’ve experienced.
- Schwabacher Landing: water views and reflections. Small parking area fills quickly.
- Oxbow Bend: easy access, wildlife potential, Mount Moran in the water on calm mornings.
- Jackson Lake: wide-open mountain views and one of our favorite places to paddleboard.
- Jenny Lake: a beautiful sunrise that also sets you up for the shuttle, Cascade Canyon, or another early hike.
- Phelps Lake or Taggart Lake: a little walking, a much quieter start.
- Leigh Lake: our personal favorite, especially if you’re already hiking, paddling, or camping there overnight.
Don’t underestimate the roadside pullouts. Some of our favorite photos have come from simply stopping when the view looked good.
Arrive 45 to 60 minutes before sunrise at the crowded locations like Mormon Row. Bring a tripod. Check the wind if you want mirror reflections. Bring layers — mornings can be cold, even in summer. If you have multiple mornings, do one iconic location and give another morning to the lakes.
