Silver Lake, American Fork

If you’re looking for the dog-and-kid-friendly alpine lake near Salt Lake City, this is the one. So many of our canyons have strict no-dog rules. Silver Lake in American Fork Canyon is a playground for the whole family.

Drive past Tibble Fork and follow the dirt road up to Silver Lake Flat Reservoir for the trailhead. $10 for a 3-day pass, or an America the Beautiful pass. Pack a picnic — plenty of flat rocks around the shore.
