Leigh Lake

July 28, 2026

Grand Teton National Park

One of the best places to catch perfect Teton reflections is a lake no one is talking about.

You can hike Leigh Lake, paddle it, or turn it into an overnight.

The trail is easy, mostly flat, and completely flexible. Keep going along the shoreline instead of stopping when you first reach the lake. Hiking roughly 1–2 miles farther makes it about a 5–6 mile round trip.

To paddle it, launch at String Lake and carry your kayak or paddleboard across the short portage. Go early before the wind picks up. Watercraft needs an inspection and a Grand Teton boat permit — kayaks, canoes, and paddleboards.

Designated backcountry campsites along the shoreline. A backcountry permit is required.
