Note
Grand Teton hikes we repeat
August 17, 2026

Everyone keeps asking what our favorite hikes in Grand Teton are, and honestly, it’s really hard to pick. These are the ones we keep coming back to.
Lake Solitude via Cascade Canyon. About 14.5 miles round trip with the Jenny Lake boat, about 2,300 ft gain. Moderate-strenuous. If we’re picking one big hiking day in the park, this is probably it. Cascade Canyon alone is still absolutely worth it if the full distance feels like too much.
Delta Lake. About 8 miles round trip, about 2,300 ft gain. Strenuous. Easily one of the most beautiful lake hikes we’ve done anywhere in the country. NPS still considers the route unmaintained.
Surprise + Amphitheater Lakes. About 10 miles, about 3,000 ft gain. Strenuous. A hard climb, but you get Teton views for a huge portion of the hike, not just at the lakes.
Paintbrush Canyon + Holly Lake. About 13 miles, about 2,800 ft gain. Strenuous. If you make it to Holly Lake, don’t immediately turn around. Walk the upper Paintbrush meadows. We almost skipped that part, and it ended up being one of our favorite sections.
Leigh Lake. 4–6 miles, minimal gain, easy. Our pick for an easier day. Relatively flat, incredible mountain views, as short or as long as you want.
We’d also put Phelps Lake and Taggart Lake on the list.
Next up: Glacier, the park we’ve spent more time exploring than any other.
